Dear Sub,

Thanks for covering my classes. Before the day starts, please change the sign on the whiteboard that says This is Week 7. Please change it to This is Week 8. There should be a series of folders on my desk that should assist the following directions. Please follow the following protocol. If you need to let a student leave the room for any reason, it is important that you write them a pass. They should have their agenda book. They can fill it out and you can initial it. If they do not have an agenda book, have them write a pass on an index card and you can sign it. If you do this during B Block or C Block there is a sheet on my cork board on which you need to record it. (It does not matter for A Block.) On the cork board there is a sheet with every child's name on it in B and C Block, if you write them a pass to the lavatory or the water fountain please write your initials over the number 8 in the row with their name.

Monday

Homeroom

  1. Please take attendance.
  2. Students should not be on their cell phones.
  3. If you need to let a student leave the room for any reason, it is imperative that you write them a pass. They should have their agenda book. They can fill it out and you can initial it. If they do not have an agenda book, have them write a pass on an index card and you can sign it.

A Block

1. Take attendance.

2. Please have a student in the class hand back any materials in the graded box at the back of the room.

3. In the ungraded box at the back of the room, there is a quiz (green sheets). All the students must take it. I will be counting it for only students who got 8 or less correct on their last attempt. They only have 3 minutes to do it. Please use a timer when doing this. If you do not have one, allow one of the students to offer their cell phone to do it. Collect the quizzes, paper clip them and put them in the ungraded box int he back of the room for A block.

4. Have students complete the formative assessment from the folder. It is three questions. Give them 2 minutes. Do not let them look at their notes. Do not let them help each other. Tell them that it does not count toward their grade. It will just let me know if they know the parent functions. Once they are done, please
a. Have the students make sure their name is on it.
b. Have the students take a picture of the worksheet (in focus) with their phone and email it to me at Tom_Vizza@sdst.org.
c. If a student does not have such a phone, try to get a willing student to do it for them.
d. Once they email it off, show them the answer key. Have them make any corrections and keep the formative assessment with their notes. They need to have that info memorized immediately if they do not have it already.
e. If you are comfortable doing this, feel free to save the kids the time. If not, it is fine if they send it from their phones.

5. Have students watch the following video on their Chrome books (if you do not have access to the smart board). Kids who do not have chrome books can look over the shoulder of kids who do have them. They should have ear buds with them. Tell them the following. "In the video. Mr. Vizza talks about the cubic function. You do not need to know it at this time. However, it works the same way the other transformations you are studying work."

6. Have students complete the worksheet that we started in class on Friday. It is called Transformations – Putting it All Together.

7. Have the students use the online answer key to check their work for this. It is on www.mathvizza.com posted under last Friday

8. Have them use each other as a resource to try to answer any questions that might arise.

9. Have students complete the worksheet called Worksheet - Transformations for Accuracy. They should finish it by the end of class. If the kids are not done they can submit it on Tuesday but they should get it done by the end of class on Monday. Get the completed stack to Corey McCaslin. He will email me a pdf of the worksheeets once you do.

10. The students can start their homework if they are done. It is called Post Quiz - Function Evaluation (pink sheets). Explain to them that it is actually a practice quiz and the quiz tomorrow will look much like it. I did not get a chance to change to title of it before I photocopied it. The answers are online.

B Block

1. Take attendance. Tell the kids I will check the homework that was due today when I return.

2. Collect the maintenance worksheets. They are purple. I emailed the key to the aids. (Andre Freeman for B Block and Tom Doyle of C Block). They will grade them while the students do their bell work.

3. Distribute Bell Work sheets. They are in my closet in the in out bin furthest to the right on golden rod sheets. Please make sure they are date-stamped and hole-punched.

Give the students 5-6 minutes to do the following problems. Write them on the whiteboard.

Directions: Please simplify. Show your work. Check them on your calculator.

1. -3|4-12| + |-12|
2. -3 - 5(3-2(-4))
3. 12(1/2)-15(1/3)
4. 11-5(3-4(2))

4. Give the graded maintenance sheets back to the students. Direct them to do their corrections and then do the next appropriate row.

5. Have the students complete the worksheets in the folder. There is a worksheet on factor pairs. Discourage them from using their calculators for the factor pair worksheets. The 24 worksheet must have at least one answer for each number combinations. Extra credit will be given if students can give multiple answers. The Ken Ken will be graded for accuracy. Students must get one correct for full credit. Collect all three sheets before class is done. Paper clip them together and put them in the ungraded box on the back wall.

6. While the students are working on the 3 worksheets, hand back all of the graded material in the graded bin. In it is the last test. If students complete the worksheets above, they can start their homework. Their homework is to do their test corrections. They need to recopy the problems that need correcting onto a separate sheet of paper and complete them correctly. Inform kids that some of them will be referred to after school tutoring due to their grade. I will explain more about this when I return.

C Block

Same plan as B Block. Keep in mind that the kids have C1 lunch. Some will come by to drop off their books. The students need to be in the room 34 minutes after the bell rings that starts the period. There is no bell at this time.

4. When the kids finish the quiz, collect them, paper clip them together and put them in the ungraded box at the back of the room.

5. After the quiz they are to complete the Transformations for Accuracy Worksheet from the previous day if they have not already done so. Collect all of these that are completed and give them to Corey McCaslin. He will send them to me via email.

6. Have students then complete the factoring worksheet in the folder from yesterday. Also for homework they are to complete the next flipped classroom module on Radicals.

B Block

1. Take attendance.

2. Collect the maintenance worksheets. They are purple. I emailed the key to the aids. (Andre Freeman for B Block and Tom Doyle of C Block). They will grade them while the students do their bell work. The date on the sheet needs to be ignored. Have the kids move to the next ungraded row.

3. Distribute Bell Work sheets.

Give the students 5-6 minutes to do the following problems. Write them on the whiteboard.

Directions: Please simplify. Show your work. Check them on your calculator.

1. -5|4-11| + |12|

5. Once the kids are done the worksheet, collect it, paper clip it and put it in the ungraded box.

6. Have kids set up a page for notes. The aid will date stamp their notebooks. The kids need to take notes on the following three videos. They can watch them on their chrome books. The aid can unlock the cow (keys are in the top left drawer of my desk) and provide any student a laptop that needs one. They may use their ear buds. Tell the aid to go to Noreen Sabin's room and borrow headsets for kids that do not have ear buds.

7. Have the students complete the worksheet called LCM and GCF. They can finish it for homework if they do not finish it by the end of class.

C Block
